Tutoring Specialties: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, SAT and ACT Math Test Preparation 

Hi!  I'm Shanitra and I'm from New Orleans!  I moved to Atlanta post Hurricane Katrina.  I have a BS in Chemical Engineering from Hampton University and an MBA from Mercer University.  I have 19 years of tutoring experience coaching over 55 students (elementary school through college) in public, charter, and private schools in multiple states.  I have also taught virtual summer enrichment math camps.  Additionally, I have experience with SAT, ACT, and Georgia Assessment for the Certification of Educators (GACE) test preparation.    

My favorite math subjects are pre-algebra and algebra because I love figuring out the unknown from what's known!  I'm VERY patient and I love making math fun, easy to understand, and relatable to the real world.  

I have worked in the real world for 19 years in the Aerospace/Defense industry in Engineering, International Business Development, and Program Management.  My favorite use of math in real life is measuring ingredients when baking cakes. (Most recipes contain fractions.)  I'm passionate about STEM and giving back to our community and was honored as "Most Influential CEO 2024- Georgia (Math Tutoring Services)" in CEO Monthly Magazine- August edition.     

I'm the privileged mother of a fun-spirited, curious, and kind-hearted 15-year old daughter (the inspiration behind my company).  I had a hard time finding summer enrichment camps to keep her motivated during the pandemic, so I decided to "be the change that I wanted to see" and start my own.  I combined our love of math and inspiring others and formalized "Amount to SUMthing" in November 2020.

Hi! I'm Chris and I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. I am currently a fourth-year student at Mercer University. I plan to graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and continue to use what I learn in the workplace.

Algebra 2 is my favorite math subject because it allows me to use other methods to solve one problem. That is important because it teaches that you can look at a problem in a completely different way than you did before, which will be helpful in my career.

I am a visual and auditory learner. Finding ways to demonstrate topics and ideas through pictures, colors, and drawings has been helpful in my success as a student and tutor. I have experience tutoring virtually through a program called America Reads America Counts (A.R.A.C.) which my university supports.

My favorite use of math in the real world is geometry because you can relate it to everyday structures or objects we see in the world.

I am motivated to be great at whatever I set my mind to and strive to improve every day. Support the people around me as much as possible so they can be better versions of themselves.

Hi! I'm Georgia and I am from Milwaukee, WI, but was raised in Norcross, GA. I am currently a senior majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Data Science and Computer Science at the illustrious Clark Atlanta University. Algebra and Precalculus are my favorite math subjects. I enjoy the simplicities of working with numbers, the answer is either right or wrong, no grey.  My favorite use of math in real life is data science, using math to interpret and understand data.

After graduation, I am looking into Phd and Masters' programs, as well as Data Science positions. In the meantime, I hope to help students who look like me with their proficiency and confidence in math and change the attitude people have towards math.

 Hi! I'm Kenneth from Dallas, TX. I am a sophomore mechanical engineering major at Tuskegee University. Since my first year of high school, I have been tutoring, and I'm elated about the chance to continue it here. My goal is to make math understandable and fun. My favorite math subjects are Calculus I and II because there is a system required to solve each problem. One of my favorite real-world applications of math is calculating the price of items on sale.

 Hi! I’m Melanie, a sophomore computer science major at Spelman College from Loganville, GA. In addition to my hobbies of drawing, crocheting, and watching reality TV, I also tutor and mentor freshman computer science students at Spelman. My favorite math subjects are Algebra I and II because they teach foundational problem-solving skills and logical thinking that apply to so many areas of life, including coding. One of my favorite ways to apply math in everyday life is by calculating the difference between retail prices and the actual product costs of makeup and hair products I enjoy using.

I aim to inspire students to understand that math is a learning process—one that can be mastered with practice and dedication. Even if math doesn't come naturally, hard work can make a world of difference.
