We add value, not subtract!
Founded in November 2020, Amount to SUMthing, LLC is a virtual boutique math tutoring and enrichment company catering to students in grades 5-12! "We add value, not subtract." If your child has ever said: "I'm not good at math" or asked "When will I ever use this stuff again?", then you have chosen the right company. We relate concepts to the real world and build three C's: courage, confidence, and compassion. We offer private tutoring, test preparation services, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) workshops, and summer camps. We expose students to professionals in the community who utilize math in real life and encourage students to use math to positively impact their communities. We believe that every student can amount to something.
By choosing us, you not only invest in your child, but you invest in our larger community as well. We donate a portion of our proceeds each year to Hampton University to benefit the "Shanitra Sanders- Pay It Forward" STEM/Business scholarship. We count it a privilege to serve you!
Vision: To inspire every math student in the world to amount to something and pay it forward
Mission: Recognize value in every student. Create value through connecting math to the real world. Elevate value by building courage, confidence, and compassion. Add value by using math to positively impact communities.
We provide a non-threatening environment where students are encouraged to ask questions and learn from mistakes.
We affirm students through math affirmations and recognition.
We foster empathy and encourage students to design and implement projects using math to positively impact their world.
We take a village approach to learning and believe that students thrive when supported by a team of parents, teachers, tutors and community professionals.
We encourage a growth vs. a fixed mindset. We embrace, rather than fear, the challenges associated with change. We foster the "Not Yet is ok" mentality. Students are capable of mastering new tasks even though they may not have mastered the tasks yet. We celebrate student progress no matter how small. We seek continuous improvement and welcome feedback.
We encourage students to embrace their individuality. We encourage all to be their true selves by shunning all forms of discrimination and judgmental attitudes.
We embrace a work hard, play hard mentality. We embrace the Cajun French phrase: "Laissez les bons temps rouler" which means "Let the good times roll." :- )
We offer 1-1 private tutoring, test preparation, quarterly Saturday workshops featuring STEM guest speakers, and summer enrichment camps. Tutoring specialties include Foundational Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and SAT Test Preparation.

Hi! I'm Shanitra and I'm from New Orleans! I moved to Atlanta post Hurricane Katrina. I have a BS in Chemical Engineering from Hampton University and an MBA from Mercer University. I have 19 years of tutoring experience coaching over 60 students (elementary school through college) in public, charter, and private schools in multiple states. I have also taught virtual summer enrichment math camps. Additionally, I have experience with SAT, ACT, and Georgia Assessment for the Certification of Educators (GACE) test preparation.
My favorite math subjects are pre-algebra and algebra because I love figuring out the unknown from what's known! I'm VERY patient and I love making math fun, easy to understand, and relatable to the real world.
I have worked in the real world for 19 years in the Aerospace/Defense industry in Engineering, International Business Development, and Program Management. My favorite use of math in real life is measuring ingredients when baking cakes. (Most recipes contain fractions.) I'm passionate about STEM and giving back to our community and was honored as "Most Influential CEO 2024- Georgia (Math Tutoring Services)" in CEO Monthly Magazine- August edition.
I'm the privileged mother of a fun-spirited, curious, and kind-hearted 15-year old daughter (the inspiration behind my company). I had a hard time finding summer enrichment camps to keep her motivated during the pandemic, so I decided to "be the change that I wanted to see" and start my own. I combined our love of math and inspiring others and formalized "Amount to SUMthing" in November 2020.

Hi! I'm Georgia and I am from Milwaukee, WI, but was raised in Norcross, GA. I am currently a senior majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Data Science and Computer Science at the illustrious Clark Atlanta University. Algebra and precalculus are my favorite math subjects. I enjoy the simplicities of working with numbers, the answer is either right or wrong, no grey. My favorite use of math in real life is data science, using math to interpret and understand data.
After graduation, I am looking into Phd and Masters' programs, as well as Data Science positions. In the meantime, I hope to help students who look like me with their proficiency and confidence in math and change the attitude people have towards math.

Hi! I’m Melanie, a sophomore computer science major at Spelman College from Loganville, GA. In addition to my hobbies of drawing, crocheting, and watching reality TV, I also tutor and mentor freshman computer science students at Spelman. My favorite math subjects are algebra I and II because they teach foundational problem-solving skills and logical thinking that apply to so many areas of life, including coding. One of my favorite ways to apply math in everyday life is by calculating the difference between retail prices and the actual product costs of makeup and hair products I enjoy using.
I aim to inspire students to understand that math is a learning process—one that can be mastered with practice and dedication. Even if math doesn't come naturally, hard work can make a world of difference.

Hi! I’m Elise and I am from Southeast Texas. I attended college in Rexburg, Idaho in 2020, majoring in Statistics. I moved back to my hometown shortly after and taught algebra I, algebra II, and geometry for two years.
My favorite math is calculus because through calculus we are able to see much deeper connections of math to the mechanics of the world around us. One of my favorite uses of math in real life is seeing how math appears in nature, such as seeing the Fibonacci sequence in spiral patterns in plant structures or nautilus shells.
I look forward to helping students not simply memorize formulas to pass a test, but develop grit and a growth mindset so that they can thrive in mathematics.
